Anyone who keeps up with luxury vehicles has doubtless heard about Chevrolet’s decision to “electrify” their iconic Corvette.

The possibility of an electric Corvette has been a subject many car enthusiasts have been speculating about for years, and now they have their answer: Yes, and multiple electric models at that.

A hybrid version will come out first, followed by a fully electric version. The traditional non-electric Corvette will still be available for purchase, for the foreseeable future.

Since the hybrid model will be here before the fully electric version, we will focus on that one first.

Wait, Why is the Corvette Going Electric?

As mentioned, the traditional Corvette models will still be available for purchase, but Chevrolet’s decision to take electric vehicles seriously reflects a larger trend in the automobile industry, which is that, well, pretty much every automaker is committed to creating EVs.

Though it may sound like a thing of the semi-distant future, it turns out that it is here sooner than you would anticipate. Just check out the title of this blog—there is going to be a hybrid Corvette hitting our lots fairly soon.

It is not just for the sake of novelty, either. Plenty of automakers are going electric for the environmental benefits and to anticipate possible government restrictions on automobile manufacturing that may come in the next few decades.

So, it is only a matter of time before a good chunk of the cars you see on the road are electric vehicles (EVs). You may even be seeing, or driving, an electric Corvette soon.

Features of the Corvette Hybrid

First thing’s first: Yes, it does have all-wheel drive (AWD.) At least, that’s what the overwhelming consensus is based off of the the teaser video for the car.

As you can see in that video, there is plenty of power in a hybrid Corvette, so anyone considering the move from traditional, internal-combustion-engine vehicles to EVs should have no problem with the hybrid’s performance.

This Corvette is a hybrid version of the preexisting C8, which has garnered plenty of positive reviews, so there is a strong expectation that Corvette will hybrid-ize and electrify this popular favorite over time.

On the surface, the hybrid C8 looks cannily similar to the traditional model, so you will not need to sacrifice style to enjoy an electrified Corvette.

But there is so much more to get excited about, such as the powered front axle, or the (rumored) 1000 horsepower offered by a twin-turbo engine that is based off of the non-electric Corvette Z06’s V-8 engine.

It will be some time before the hybrid or the electric are available for purchase, but you can be certain that we here at Bob Hook can answer your questions about these exciting new vehicles, and will offer them on our lots as soon as possible.
